Wildcats Head to Chicago State Wednesday

EVANSTON, Ill. — Northwestern will continue its 2017 campaign on Wednesday, April 26, with a mid-week contest at Chicago State. First pitch between the Wildcats and Cougars is set for 6 p.m. CT.
 
Northwestern (16-23, 5-7 B1G) enters Wednesday's contest having won seven of its last 10 games. The Wildcats took a series at Penn State over the weekend (April 21-23) by winning the first two games, 12-5 and 7-4, before falling in the series finale, 2-1, on a walk-off.
 
Chicago State comes into the week on a five-game losing streak to boast an 9-28 overall record. CSU will battle UIC on Tuesday night before hosting Northwestern on Wednesday.
 
Senior Josh Davis (3-1, 3.24 ERA) will make his seventh start and ninth appearance of the season on Wednesday. Davis has been outstanding in his last two outings, earning back-to-back victories. The right-hander posted his second quality start of the season when he started against Western Michigan (April 11) and went 6.0 innings, allowing three runs on six hits and striking out five. Davis followed up tat performance by fanning a career-high six batters in five innings against Milwaukee (April 18) last week. Davis' 3.24 ERA is the second-lowest on the team.
 
After batting .400 with six hits, seven RBI, three runs scored and a home run in four games last week, senior Joe Hoscheit was named the Big Ten Conference Player of the Week for the second week in a row. Hoscheit went 6-for-15 with a .666 slugging percentage, a .444 on base percentage and a 1.111 OPS in a midweek game against Milwaukee and a series at Penn State. The senior accounted for ten runs between his RBI and runs scored, and led the Wildcats to three wins out of four games.
 
Northwestern topped Chicago State, 2-0, earlier this season on March 29. Senior Cooper Wetherbee tossed seven-scoreless innings to lead the Wildcats to the shutout victory.
Connor Lind and Matt Hopfner led the way for Northwestern offensively. The duo each tallied a team-high two hits and Lind collected the game's only RBI.
