EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern redshirt junior Maddie Lipp is the Big Ten Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week the Conference office announced Tuesday. It is the third such honor of her career and her first this season.
Lipp, a native of Lake Forest, Illinois, posted a pair of singles wins and two doubles wins in leading Northwestern to shutout road wins at Purdue and Indiana.
Against the Boilermakers, she paired with Alex Chatt as the 14th-ranked duo defeated the 51st-ranked team of Andjela Djokovic and Rafaella Baquerizo, 6-2, before notching a straight-sets win over Alex Sabe at No. 2 singles, 6-4, 6-3.
Lipp recorded two more wins the following day, teaming with Chatt for a 6-4 win over Madison Appel and Kim Schmider prior to defeating Appel at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 6-7 (8), 6-1. The win was the sixth consecutive for the Wildcats and helped them remain in a first-place tie in the Big Ten.
Northwestern (11-8, 7-0 Big Ten) returns to action at 4 p.m. Friday when it hosts Penn State.
