EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern is back on the road Thursday evening as it begins a four-game series with Portland, with the opening pitch scheduled for 8 p.m. CT. Josh Davis [0-0, 2.84 ERA] will take the mound for the Wildcats.
Thursday's action will be followed by a doubleheader on Friday, with Hank Christie [1-1, 2.25 ERA] and Matt Gannon [0-1, 5.40 ERA] getting the nod for NU. The series will conclude on Saturday with an afternoon game at 1 p.m. The start will go to Josh Levy [1-0, 0.96 ERA].
Chicago's Big Ten Team is coming off its first home game of the season, which followed a stretch of ten straight away matchups to begin the campaign.
Despite a strong start, the 'Cats fell to UIC last time out, 9-2. The loss followed a series at Santa Clara in which Northwestern won two games.
Six different Wildcats tallied hits against UIC, and Willie Bourbon added an RBI. Tommy Bordignon also pitched a season-high 3.2 innings in the loss, giving up just three hits in the process.
Portland enters the contest with a 1-9 record on the season. The Pilots are coming off a series against UC Irvine in which they dropped all three to the hosts.
Kevin Baker [0-1, 11.25 ERA] will face NU in the opener Thursday night. The hosts will send out Grady Miller [0-3, 5.27 ERA] and Corbin Powers [0-1, 6.00 ERA] in the doubleheader on Friday, and Jordan Horak [0-2, 5.62 ERA] in the finale on Saturday.
