EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern is the No. 6 seed for this week's 2017 Big Ten Men's Basketball Tournament and opens play at approximately 8 p.m. Central time Thursday at Verizon Center in Washington D.C.
The Wildcats (21-10, 10-8) will take on the winner of Wednesday contest between 11th-seeded Ohio State and 14th-seeded Rutgers. Thursday's game is being televised by ESPN2.
Northwestern tied with Michigan State for fifth place in the Big Ten standings but the Spartans got the No. 5 seeded due to a head-to-head win over the Wildcats.
NU defeated Ohio State, 74-72, in the only matchup between the schools Jan. 22 in Columbus. The Wildcats won both of their matchups with Rutgers, winning 69-60 Jan. 12 in Piscataway and 69-65 Feb. 18 in Evanston.
The winner of Thursday's contest takes on third-seeded Maryland in Friday's quarterfinal round.
