INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Northwestern's time at the 2017 Big Ten Tournament came to an end with a 99-68 loss to top overall seed Ohio State in the quarterfinals Friday afternoon at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.
The Wildcats were led by senior captain Nia Coffey, who scored 21 points and grabbed eight rebounds. She moved to within 20 points of Anucha Browne (1982-85) for the all-time program record at Northwestern.
Fellow senior captains Ashley Deary (13) and Christen Inman (11) also reached double figures in scoring. Deary had six rebounds, three assists and two steals, while Inman pitched in three steals and two assists.
Ohio State outshot the Wildcats 46 percent to 36 percent from the field. The Buckeyes made 13-of-27 from deep compared to three makes for Northwestern. OSU forced 21 Northwestern turnovers and converted them into 29 points.
The 'Cats held the advantage down low, outscoring Ohio State 42-34 in the paint.
The Buckeyes led 23-11 after the first quarter and continued to extend their lead through the next two periods with the margin reaching as high as 39 near the end of the third. Northwestern outscored Ohio State by six in the fourth quarter to bring the final margin to 99-68.
