RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico – Ryan Lumsden carded a 1-under 71 to lead the Wildcats in Sunday's opening round of the elite Puerto Rico Classic at Rio Mar Resort. The sophomore owns a share of 12th after 18 holes, just two strokes outside the Top-5.

Lumsden entered the 'Cats first stroke play competition of the spring with one of Northwestern's top resumes in the format this season, owning the second-best stroke average on the roster as well as a win at October's Marquette Invitational. He teed off Sunday on the 547-yard, Par-5 No. 8 and opened with a birdie, before then logging back-to-back birdies on the 174-yard, Par-3 No. 14 and the 544-yard, Par-5 No. 15, and finishing the round with seven consecutive pars.
Junior Dylan Wu got off to a challenging start, carding a double-bogey on his first hole of the day, the 547-yard, Par-5 No. 8, but bounced back in a big way with two birdies and 15 pars over the remainder of the round to finish with an even-par 72.
Northwestern will be paired with Ole Miss and Big Ten peer Maryland in Monday's second round, an 8 a.m. ET shotgun start at Rio Mar.
