EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern senior Ashley Deary was named to the 2016 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District V team, the organization announced Thursday.
CoSIDA's fifth district is comprised of Division I programs from Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio. Student-athletes are nominated because of significant on-court contributions and performance in the classroom. Those with a career GPA of at least 3.3 are eligible and voted upon for all-district by CoSIDA members.
Academic All-District honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team selections will be announced later this month.
Deary will graduate from Northwestern with a degree in economics, as well as a minor in business institutions.
In addition to her success in the classroom, Deary has been a star on the court for all four of her years in Evanston. She is a three-time All-Big Ten honoree, and recently was named a finalist for the Nancy Lieberman Award. Given to the nation's top point guard, it marks the second time Deary has been chosen as a finalist.
Her accomplishments also include several statistical records. With her 373rd career steal earlier this season, she broke the all-time Big Ten record, and now has tallied over 400. Deary also currently leads the conference in both assists and steals per game for the 2016-17 season, is the nation's active career leader in both categories and ranks second in Northwestern history in career assists.
