NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- No. 23 Northwestern played toe-to-toe with a top-10 opponent for the second straight match but came up just short, falling 5-2 to ninth-ranked Vanderbilt Friday afternoon at Currey Tennis Center.
The Wildcats (4-2) picked up their victories at Nos. 2 and 5 singles. Vanderbilt jumped out in front by taking the always-important doubles point with victories at Nos. 1 and 3.
Things didn't look good for NU when the Commodores earned straight-set wins at Nos. 1 and 4 singles. However, the Wildcats refused to go away.

After letting a first-set lead slip away, 104th-ranked Maddie Lipp didn't let that deter her as she rallied back to pull off an upset win over No. 28 Christina Rosca, 5-7, 6-3, 6-3.
Vanderbilt (3-0) got its clinching point at No. 3 where Rheeya Doshi was narrowly edged by Georgina Sellyn in a close three-set match, 4-6, 6-4, 7-5.
