EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern welcomes Stanford, Georgia Tech and Memphis to the Combe Tennis Center over the weekend when it hosts the annual ITA Kick-Off Weekend for the first time ever.
The top-15 teams in the country, based on last year's national rankings, will all host four-team regionals over the weekend with the winners from each regional advancing to Charlottesville, Virginia, for the ITA National Team Indoor Championships in February.
The 10th-ranked Wildcats host Memphis in the first round at 2 p.m. on Saturday. No. 18 Stanford and Georgia Tech will play earlier in the day at 10 a.m. Saturday's winners will meet at 2 p.m. Sunday with a trip to Virginia on the line. The consolation match will take place at 10 a.m. Sunday.
Northwestern moved into the nation's top-10 on Wednesday following a 4-2 win over then-No. 7 TCU last Friday. The Wildcats are off to a 4-0 start for the first time since 2014. The 'Cats were ranked in the top-10 on two occasions last year, reaching as high as No. 7.
Series History
Memphis leads the all-time series with Northwestern, 3-0, but the teams have not played since the 1978 season.
Northwestern has beaten Georgia Tech both times the teams have ever played, the last being a 6-1 win in 1998.
Stanford leads the series with the Wildcats, 4-0. Last year's NCAA Round of 32 matchup was the first since 2000. Stanford won in Evanston to advance to the Round of 16, 4-3.
