Lauren Clem Named NSCAA Third-Team All-American

Junior goalkeeper Lauren Clem has been named a third-team All-American by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, the organization announced Friday.

Clem becomes the first Wildcat in program history to earn an All-America nod.

The Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Year closed out the season with an NCAA-leading goals against average (.290) and save percentage (.927). In addition, Clem now holds the NU program record for career shutouts by a significant margin after finishing the year with 39-career clean sheets. In addition, she anchored a defense that saw a program-best and NCAA-leading 17 shutouts during the 2016 season, including eight against Big Ten opponents.

The Stevensville, Michigan, native also earned All-Big Ten first team honors and was named to the NSCAA All-Great Lakes Region first team earlier this season.

Northwestern finished the season 16-3-4 overall to tie the renowned 1998 team for the most wins in a single season. The Wildcats did not lose a single match against a team ranked outside the RPI top 22 (based on the most RPI data).

Clem helped lead NU to the NCAA Tournament for the second-straight year. The squad's run to the Round of 16 marked just the second appearance for the 'Cats in program history and the first since 1998.
