The Northwestern women's swimming and diving program wrapped up the fall quarter and headed to the sunshine state to continue its preparation for the 2017 Big Ten Championships. The Wildcats are providing a daily blog from their experience:
Hello Wildcats! It has been a great couple of days here at Key Largo but like the saying goes, all good things must come to an end. Thursday morning was our last morning practice at the Jacobs Aquatic Center. We started out the morning with dryland which included some boxing, cardio, and core. After we all sweated our tails off, we headed straight to the pool and completed the morning workout.
The Team had brunch at the Conch House where we were served either pancakes, waffles, eggs benedict, or eggs, bacon with toast. It was delicious!! We all left with full stomachs and headed back to the hotel to relax and soak up some vitamin D.
Afternoon practice came around and we all took a fun picture at the kiddy pool on top of the pirate ship. The set for the afternoon was challenging but fun! 24x 50's and 24x25's all-out sprint. The goal was to race one another and that's exactly what we all did. The cheering and enthusiasm filled the pool as we all got through the challenging set. It was a great way to end the hard training we have endured the past couple of days. We ended practice with more pictures to capture memories that will last for a life time. The team topped off the night with a homemade dinner and dessert from Dairy Queen!
Friday was our travel day. Before the 2.5 hour flight, some of us 'Cats went on a sunrise paddle boarding trip. We paddled around a beautiful cove for an hour and a half and got to see a Manatee! It was a blast and an amazing way for us to end our training trip and say goodbye to the Florida sun.
