EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern senior forward Isabel Flens capped her standout career by adding the title of All-American to her resume Wednesday, earning selection to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) All-America second team.
This marks the seventh straight year that Northwestern has had at least one individual earn All-America recognition.
A native of Hattem, The Netherlands, Flens paced the Wildcats with 18 goals and 44 points during her recently completed senior season. Her goal total ranked second in the Big Ten while her points mark ranked third in the league. Flens recorded two hat tricks during the 2016 campaign, in wins over Colgate (Sept. 11) and Drexel (Oct. 2). The three goals against Drexel were recorded within the first nine minutes of the contest and helped her earn Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week and honorable mention Longstreth/NFHCA National Offensive Player of the Week honors.
A first-team All-Big Ten and NFHCA All-West Region selection in 2016, Flens helped lead Northwestern to a 13-8 record. She leaves Evanston as the school's fourth all-time leading goal scorer with 52 tallies while ranking third with 130 career points.
