EVANSTON, Ill. — Running back John Moten IV has been named the Big Ten Co-Freshman of the Week following his career-best performance at Purdue, the league office announced Monday morning.
Moten had career highs with 16 carries and 119 yards rushing, eclipsing the 100-yard plateau for the first time in his young career. He averaged 7.4 yards per carry and busted out a season-long 27-yard run in the third quarter. The redshirt freshman also caught a 20-yard pass from Clayton Thorson to finish the day with 139 all-purpose yards.
Moten and junior running back Justin Jackson (127 yards) became the first pair of Wildcats to rush for 100 yards in the same game since Trevyon Green (149) and Kain Colter (106) vs. Western Michigan on Sept. 14, 2013.
Northwestern had a season-high 605 yards of offense in its win over the Boilermakers, including 253 on the ground.
The Wildcats improved to 5-5 on the year and 4-3 on the year with the 45-17 victory. Chicago's Big Ten Team will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to Minnesota. The game will kickoff at 2:30 p.m. CT on the Big Ten Network.
