PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. -- Northwestern's seventh-seeded doubles team of Alex Chatt of Maddie Lipp dropped its semifinal round match at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championship is a heartbreaker Saturday evening.
The Wildcats' duo -- No. 8 in the ITA Preseason Rankings -- had a pair of match points but eventually was overcome by the North Carolina team of Haley Carter and Jessie Aney, 2-6, 7-5, 1-0 (11-9), denying them a spot in Sunday's championship match.
The loss was the first of the season for team of Chatt and Lipp following six consecutive wins.
Northwestern returns to action Oct. 21 when it starts competition at both the ITA Midwest Regionals in East Lansing, Michigan, and the Hoosier Classic in Bloomington, Indiana.
