SYMONE SLAM
Junior outside hitter Symone Abbott has been an important offensive weapon for the Wildcats in 2016. She is averaging 3.99 kills per set, which ranks fifth in the Big Ten. Her mark currently ranks seventh in program single-season history. The program record is 4.48.
Abbott recorded her 1,000th career kill in the third set against Iowa on Oct. 1, becoming the 22nd player in Wildcats' history to reach the milestone. The program record is 1,797, set by Stephanie Holthus from 2010-13.
She had 22 kills in a three-set match vs. George Washington to open the season, which is the 12th-most in the NCAA this year and second-most in program history for a three-setter. Abbott is hitting .194 for the season, and her .700 mark against Buffalo (14-for-20) is the eighth-best performance in the country for players with 20 or more attempts.
MILESTONE TRACKER
Taylor Tashima moved into sixth-place all-time at Northwestern in assists against Illinois on Oct. 5th. She currently sits at 2,692 for her career, and at her current pace she could pass Andrea Proos (1985-88) for fifth by the end of the season.
Kayla Morin enters her senior season as another all-around force for the Wildcats. She is the active leader on the team with 865 digs and also has 961 kills and 199 blocks. She would become only the ninth player in program history to eclipse both 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs.
WIN THE FIRST SET
Northwestern is 8-2 in 2016 when it wins the first set, a year after going 13-0. The team was also 14-0 when it had the advantage in hitting percentage and is 6-2 this season.
