EVANSTON, Ill. — Heading into his second season at the helm of the Wildcats, Northwestern head coach Spencer Allen has announced the 2017 baseball schedule.
The 2017 campaign is highlighted by 26 home games at the beautiful new Rocky and Berenice Miller Park, West Coast swings to Arizona, California and Oregon, as well as a competitive Big Ten slate.
Northwestern will open the season on Friday, Feb. 17 with a three-game set at Arizona State. The Sun Devils are coming off a 36-win season that saw the program advance to the NCAA Regionals.
Following the trip to Tempe, Ariz., the Wildcats will head to Nashville, Tenn., for the Mule Mix Classic on Feb. 24-26. Times and opponents for the spring classic will be announced at a later date.
Two more trips out west are on the docket for the Wildcats in the early portion of the season. Northwestern will head to Santa Clara for four games (March 3-5), before traveling to play Portland (March 9-11) the following weekend.
In between the Wildcats' series against Santa Clara and Portland, the team is scheduled to play its home opener on Tuesday, March 7 against crosstown-foe UIC.
Along with UIC, Northwestern will welcome five non-conference opponents to Miller Park in 2017, including Central Michigan (March 17-19), Chicago State (March 29), Air Force (March 31-April 2), Illinois State (April 5) and Western Michigan (April 11).
A home series against Indiana (March 24-26) will kickoff Big Ten Conference play for Northwestern. The Wildcats will also host league series against Iowa (April 7-9), Michigan State (April 28-30) and Rutgers (May 18-20) in the spring.
Northwestern will travel to Illinois (April 14-16), Penn State (April 21-23), Purdue (May 5-7) and Maryland (May 12-14) to complete its conference schedule.
Season passes and ticket information for the 2017 season will be released at a later date.
