Northwestern Set for Showdown with No. 1 Maryland

EVANSTON, Ill. — Northwestern will look to defend home turf on Friday, Sept. 30, when No. 1 Maryland visits Martin Stadium for a 7 p.m. CT kick.

LAST TIME OUT
The Wildcats (2-6-1, 1-2-1 B1G)) enter the tilt against the Terrapins after claiming a 2-1, double-overtime victory over Michigan on Sunday. Senior Mike Roberge score the game-winner for the 'Cats in the 107th minute, while Elo Ozumba notched the #B1GCats first tally of the contest in the 28th minute.
 
Nathan Dearth was credited with assists on both goals. The Pittsburgh, Pa., native also scored a goal against DePaul (Sept. 21) earlier in the week to compile four points in the first two matches of the current three-game homestand.
 
SERIES HISTORY
Northwestern and Maryland have squared off twice since the Terrapins joined the league in 2014 with the Wildcats taking overtime victories in both meetings.
 
Northwestern earned a 2-1 (OT) result last season and posted a 3-2 (OT) victory in 2014, the last time Maryland visited Evanston.
 
THE OPPONENT
Maryland (6-0-2, 3-0-1 B1G) is ranked No. 1 in the latest NSCAA Top 25 poll. It was the first time since Oct. 30, 2012, that the Terps have claimed the top spot. The club is off to its best start since the 2012 season, when the team matched its best start in program history at 14-0-1.
 
Gordon Wild, who has been named the Big Ten Conference Offensive Player of the Week twice in the last three weeks, leads the league in scoring with 17 points on eight goals and one assist.
 
Cody Niedermeier has seen all the action in net this season and posts a 0.81 goals-against average.
