Abbott Continues Big Ten-Leading Offensive Pace

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – Symone Abbott and Gabrielle Hazen had typically strong offensive performances, but Northwestern dropped the final of the UNI Tournament to host school Northern Iowa on Saturday afternoon.
 
Abbott had a match high 16 kills in just three sets. She raised her kills per set average to 4.3, which continues to lead the Big Ten. She also had seven digs and two blocks. Hazen added eight kills, five of which came in the first set.
 
True freshman libero Sarah Johnson made her first career start and totaled a match-high 18 digs.
 
Taylor Tashima added 20 more assists to her career total, bringing it to 2,433. She is just 33 away from Kelli Meyer (1999-2002) for seventh place on the all-time list at Northwestern.
 
Northwestern begins Big Ten play next week with the conference opener at Indiana Wednesday night at 6 p.m. CT. The 'Cats home opener is next Sunday vs. No. 20 Penn State at 1 p.m.
