EVANSTON, Ill. – Three Wildcats scored as Northwestern claimed its fourth shutout of the year with a 3-0 win over Colorado State on Sunday afternoon at Lanny & Sharon Martin Stadium.
Junior Lauren Clem recorded her program-best 26th career cleansheet and anchored a defense that allowed just three shots over 90 minutes of action.
The Wildcats offense was strong out of the gates as freshman Maddy Lucas nailed a shot just seconds into the contest. Chicago's Big Ten Team found its first first-half goal of the year when sophomore Brenna Lovera shook off a pair of CSU defenders and slipped in a shot to the far post.
The #B1GCats added to their lead with a goal in the 74th minute. Lucas found Kourtney Scott who sent home a powerful shot low to the far post, marking the first goal of the year for the senior.
Northwestern was not done as its offense continued to provide a powerful attack. Scott made another attempt with three minutes left to play, but was unsuccessful. Sophomore Mackenzie Howe was there to tap in the rebound for her first-career goal to give the 'Cats a 3-0 win.
The Wildcats will return to action on Thursday, Sept. 8, when they host Illinois State at 7 p.m.
