2016 Northwestern Field Hockey Schedule
EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern and head coach Tracey Fuchs have set the schedule for the upcoming 2016 Wildcats field hockey season. The challenging 19-game slate includes as many as nine regular-season matchups against teams that participated in the 2015 NCAA Tournament.
The season gets underway Aug. 26 in Durham, New Hampshire, when the Wildcats take on 2015 NCAA Tournament participant Boston University. The tournament field also includes another tourney team -- UMass -- in addition to host New Hampshire with the winners and the losers of the matches on the 26th squaring off two days later.
Northwestern faces two more teams that appeared in last season's NCAA tournament the next weekend in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The 'Cats take on 2015 quarterfinalist Boston College Sept. 2 before squaring off against Duke -- a national semifinalist a year ago -- on Sept. 4.
The Wildcats' home slate gets underway Sept. 9 when NU faces Ball State at Lakeside Field before a visit from Colgate looms two days later.
Northwestern gets its Big Ten schedule started on the road Sept. 16 when it travels to Ohio State before remaining in the state of Ohio to face Kent State on Sept. 18.
A huge weekend of conference action is on tap for Sept. 23 and 25 when the 'Cats host Penn State and Maryland, respectively. NU ventures out on the road for its next four matches, facing Rutgers (9/30), Drexel (10/2), Indiana (10/7) and Louisville (10/9).
Northwestern returns home Oct. 14 when it takes on Iowa before Michigan comes to Evanston for Senior Day on Oct. 21. The regular season concludes with three matches in the state of Michigan. The 'Cats travel to Central Michigan Oct. 23 and Michigan State Oct. 28 before facing Stanford in a neutral-site matchup in Ann Arbor Oct. 29.
Maryland will serve as the host site for the 2016 Big Ten Tournament Nov. 3-6 in College Park.
