EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern women's golf head coach Emily Fletcher has been selected as the 2016 Central Region Coach of the Year by the Women's Golf Coaches Association and Golf Pride Grips.
Fletcher has now guided Northwestern to three Big Ten Championships in the last four years, seven consecutive NCAA Regionals appearances and four straight berths in the NCAA Championships, including a program-best ninth-place finish last month at Eugene Country Club in Oregon.
She was honored as the Big Ten Coach of the Year in 2016 for the second-straight season and the fourth time in the last six years. She earned her first in 2011, the first in Wildcats history, added a second in 2013 while leading the `Cats to their first Big Ten Championship and earned a third last season when NU again captured the Conference crown.
Her team this year featured sophomore Hannah Kim, the two-time Big Ten Player of the Year, Big Ten Freshman of the Year Stephanie Lau and five student-athletes who received All-Big Ten honors, including a program-record four on the First Team.
Fletcher was one of three coaches nationally to receive WGCA regional honors this year, joined by East Region Coach of the Year Emily Bastel Glaser of Florida, and the West Region's Mary Lou Mulfur from the national champion Washington Huskies.
The Women's Golf Coaches Association, founded in 1983, is a non-profit organization representing women's collegiate golf coaches.
