2016 Season Comes to a Close for Northwestern

TULSA, Okla. – Sam Shropshire put up a good fight against the No. 5 ranked player in the country but ultimately fell in three sets on Thursday in the NCAA tournament Round of 32.
 
The 40th-ranked Shropshire battled Cameron Norrie of TCU to the end, but the lefty's long-range kept the Northwestern junior at bay, ending the 2016 season for the Wildcats.
 
Shropshire finishes the year with a 21-9 record and 11 wins over ranked opponents. The First-Team All-Big Ten selection also had a tremendous doubles campaign, partnering with Konrad Zieba for 19 wins, the fifth-most in a single season at Northwestern.
 
Chicago's Big Ten Team as a whole had the best season in program history. The team's 26-5 mark set the record for wins and winning percentage, and the Wildcats reached as high as seventh in the national rankings.
 
Northwestern returns five of six singles starters and four of six doubles starters next season.
