EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern was represented by three individuals on the All-Big Ten team when the the league honors were announced Wednesday.
Senior Alicia Barnett, redshirt sophomore Maddie Lipp and sophomore Erin Larner each picked up the all-conference distinction. The honor is the third of Barnett's career, the second for Larner and the first for Lipp.
Barnett ranks tied for second on the team with 11 singles wins, including posting a 9-2 record against league foes. In doubles action, she has a current national ranking of No. 56 when pairing with Erin Larner. She most recently has teamed with Brooke Rischbieth at the No. 2 spot in NU's doubles lineup.
Larner has a current singles national ranking of No. 95 while playing at the top spot in the Wildcats' lineup the majority of the season. Her 20 singles wins rank second on the team, including posting eight in league play with three victories over nationally ranked opponents. Larner also has 24 doubles victories to her credit with a 16-6 mark in dual match action, including 9-1 in Big Ten play.
Lipp earned her first All-Big Ten accolade after notching a team-best 23 singles wins. Among the total are six over ranked foes while posting an 8-1 mark against Big Ten opposition. Lipp is Northwestern's top-ranked singles player nationally, coming in at No. 52. She has also paired with Alex Chatt on the Wildcats' top doubles team with the duo earning a No. 22 national ranking and earning a bid to the upcoming NCAA doubles championship.
Additionally, Chatt was recognized as the team's recipient of the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award. The student-athletes chosen to receive the honor are individuals who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. These student-athletes must also be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the competition setting.
Northwestern (13-10, 10-1 Big Ten) will make its 18th consecutive NCAA tournament appearance and 27th overall beginning next Friday, May 13 when it takes on Ole Miss in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
