EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern seniors Andrea Filler and Amy Letourneau have been named CoSIDA Academic All-District V selections by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), the organization announced today.
The duo's selection marks the 18th and 19th all-time CoSIDA Academic All-District selections in program history, and the first time two Wildcats have been honored in the same season since Kristen Amegin and Garland Cooper in 2006.
At least one Wildcat has earned this honor in 11 of the last 13 years.
To be eligible for the award, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or better and be in at least their second academic year at their institution. Filler and Letourneau now are eligible for consideration on the Academic All-America ballot.
Both Filler and Letourneau are fifth-year seniors for the Wildcats and earned their bachelor's degrees last year. Filler graduated with a degree in communication studies while Letourneau's degree is in economics with a minor in business institutions. Filler now is pursuing a master's degree in sports administration; Letourneau is enrolled in a post-baccalaureate certificate program in finance.
On the field, the pair is combining to have the best seasons of their careers. Filler is batting .331 with a team-leading 15 home runs, 53 RBIs and a .782 slugging percentage, all of which rank among the nation's leaders. Letourneau, meanwhile, is batting a team-best .364 with 14 home runs and 51 RBIs. In the circle, Letourneau has 11 wins including a 6-2 mark in Big Ten play.
Northwestern concludes the regular season this weekend, May 6-8, at Purdue.
