#B1GCats Earn No. 9 Seed at Oklahoma NCAA Regional

EVANSTON, Ill.  – Northwestern's season will continue in the NCAA postseason this year after earning the No. 9 seed at the May 16-18 Oklahoma Regional at Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater.

"We are just delighted to see our name in the NCAA Regional for Stillwater," said head coach David Inglis. "It is a good venue for us. It will be tough, but it is a great field and we are really excited to get going now that we know where we are going to play."

The Wildcats have qualified for NCAA Regionals for the first time since Inglis took the reigns as head coach, and the 16th time in Director of Golf Pat Goss' 20-year tenure. NU has advanced out of Regional play eight times under Goss, most recently in 2011 when an epic final round charge at the Colorado Regional propelled NU into the top three and a berth at the NCAA National Championships.

Chicago's Big Ten Team last competed at Karsten Creek in 2009 as the squad earned a fourth-place team finish to earn a berth in the NCAA National Championships.

"It is a tough course," said sophomore Dylan Wu. "It is one of the toughest courses in the country, so it is going to take a lot of grit and grind, but I think that is what fits our team best."

Six 54-hole regional tournaments will be conducted May 16-18.  Thirteen teams and ten individuals not on those teams will compete at each of three regionals while the other three regionals will have 14 teams and five individuals not on those teams.  The low five teams and the low individual not on those teams from each regional will advance to the finals.

The other 13 teams competing at the Oklahoma Regional are: Oklahoma State, Clemson, Oklahoma, Duke, Augusta, Purdue, Michigan State, Tennessee, Louisville, McNeese State, VCU, UMKC and Alabama State.

Northwestern is fresh off a sixth-place team finish at the Big Ten Championships that featured two top-15 individual performances in sophomore Dylan Wu and senior Josh Jamieson. The Wildcats shot a final round of 4-under 284 to finish the 54-hole tournament at 9-over 873, six shots behind a fourth-place tie between Michigan and Michigan State.

"We are so close," Jamieson said. "We have played some really good rounds in the past few weeks…everyone is showing signs of some really good golf. Hopefully, it just clicks at regionals."

Wu, who earned an NCAA Regional bid as an individual last season, led Northwestern in the individual standings at his second-career Big Ten Championships. The sophomore finished sixth overall at 3-under 213. NU was named to the All-Big Ten second team after logging three top-10 finishes for NU this season.
