EVANSTON, Ill. — Northwestern sophomore Selena Lasota has been named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week for her career-best performance at Ohio State, the league office announced Tuesday morning.
Lasota scored a career-high eight goals, including five in the second half, to lead the Wildcats past the Buckeyes in the regular season finale, 22-13. She also had one assist, a season-high six draw controls, three caused turnovers and two ground balls. Her eight goals are the most by a Big Ten player this season and tie the second-best output in program history.
The Buckeyes had scored four unanswered goals last Friday to tie the game, 11-11. Lasota then took over, scoring the go-ahead goal just eight seconds after the Buckeyes equalizer before tallying four more goals during an 11-2 run to close the game.
This is Lasota's third career Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week award and her second this season.
Northwestern will host the Big Ten Tournament this week at Lanny and Sharon Martin Stadium. The Wildcats earned the No. 3 seed and will play No. 6-seeded Michigan in the quarterfinals Thursday afternoon at 1:30. All five games of the 2016 Big Ten Women's Lacrosse Tournament will air nationally on the Big Ten Network.
