EVANSTON, Ill. – Junior Kacie Komoto has been honored as the Big Ten Golfer of the Week for the period ending February 16, the Conference announced on Wednesday. The Honolulu native fired a 3-over 219 to secure a share of eighth-place at the 2016 Lady Puerto Rico Classic, pacing four Wildcats in the Top-20 and helping the team to a fifth-place finish on Tuesday at Rio Mar Country Club.
Komoto, a two-time All-Big Ten honoree in her first two collegiate seasons, ranked sixth in the field with 11 birdies over 54 holes. Her 1-under 71 during Monday's second round was the best 18-hole performance of the tournament for Northwestern, and her 3-over 219 was the best score of any Big Ten golfer in the field.
This marks Komoto's second Big Ten Golfer of the Week honor this season. She was also recognized in October after leading Northwestern to the Windy City Collegiate Classic title, one of three Wildcats recognized as a weekly Conference standout during the fall campaign.
The junior earned both First Team All-Big Ten and Academic All-Big Ten honors last season, following a Second Team All-Big Ten nod as a rookie.
Following a weekend off, the Wildcats will return to competition on Feb. 29 at the Hurricane Invitational hosted by the University of Miami at Biltmore Golf Course in Coral Gables, Fla.
