EVANSTON, Ill. — Northwestern will travel to Lincoln, Neb. on Friday to take on the eighth-ranked Nebraska Cornhuskers at 8 p.m.
The match will be televised live on Big Ten Network.
The Wildcats are coming off a weekend with two losses to top-25 opponents by a combined three points.
FRESH FACES
• Six of the 10 bouts between Northwestern and Nebraska will be first time meetings. All six will come in order from 157-285. Conversely, the first four matches will feature wrestlers who are familiar with one another.
• No. 6 Jason Tsirtsis is 2-0 all-time vs. No. 4 Jake Sueflohn at 149 lbs., including a 6-2 win in the 2014 Big Ten championship match. The Huskers' Tim Lambert is 3-0 vs. Garrison White at 125 lbs., Eric Montoya is 1-0 against Dominick Malone at 133 and Anthony Abidin holds two wins over Jameson Oster at 141 lbs.
IN THE POLLS
• Jason Tsirtsis is ranked sixth at 149 lbs. by FloWrestling and InterMat and seventh by The Open Mat this week.
• Dominick Malone is in the national polls for the second consecutive week at 133 lbs. He is in the midst of a four-match winning streak with two bonus point decisions and a win over a top-20 opponent. He is ranked No. 20 by InterMat. Jameson Oster is also ranked No. 20 for the second consecutive week at 141 lbs. by FloWrestling.
A PINNING MACHINE
• Dominick Malone has been a pinning machine so far this season, winning eight of his 19 matches by fall. He has outscored his opponents in back points, 78-8.
• All of Malone's falls have come in the first period. His fastest was a 45 second pin of teammate Ian Cramer at the Michigan State Open on Nov. 15. He has two other pins in less than a minute - a 56 second win over Scott Stevens of Franklin & Marshall in the Wildcats 30-18 win at the Grapple at the Garden and a 58 second fall at the Midlands of CSU Bakersfield's Carlos Herrera.
• Malone leads the team with 19 wins. He won eight in a row from Nov. 15 to Dec. 13 and has won nine of his last 12 and four in a row. Five of his six losses are to ranked opponents.
