EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern senior back Lisa McCarthy (Dublin, Ireland/Mount Anville) has been recognized as a second-team All-American by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA).
This is the second consecutive season that McCarthy has earned second-team All-America distinction and the sixth straight year that an NU player has been named an All-American.
Throughout her career, McCarthy established herself as one of the top defenders in the nation. In 2015, she played a large role in the Wildcats leading the Big Ten with six shutouts. As the team's defensive anchor, McCarthy helped Northwestern allow just 33 goals in its 21 contests this season.
A four-time All-Big Ten and All-West Region selection, she also contributed to the Wildcats' high-powered offensive attack this year. McCarthy led the team and ranked second in the Big Ten with 13 assists while also contributing three goals.
She completed her Northwestern career with 45 assists to rank second in school history in the category.
