ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Northwestern redshirt sophomore Maddie Lipp dropped a nail-biting three-set decision in the singles final of the ITA Midwest Regional Championships on Tuesday.
Lipp clamed the first set from Michigan freshman Brienne Minor before dropping the next two in tiebreakers, falling 3-6, 7-6 (5), 7-6 (3).
By winning the regional championship, Minor earned an automatic berth to the ITA National Indoor Championships in Flushing, New York, in November. Lipp will await word to find out if she is awarded an at-large bid into the draw. The Wildcat is already set to pair with teammate Alex Chatt in the doubles draw of the event.
Northwestern's contingent returns to action this weekend when it participates in the Roberta Alison Classic in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
