BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Symone Abbott and Kayla Morin each tallied nine kills, but Northwestern dropped a match on the road at Indiana in three sets on Saturday night.
Morin hit .562 to lead the Wildcats offense, but the Indiana defense proved too strong, piling up eight blocks and holding Northwestern to a .135 hitting percentage as a team.
Junior Maddie Slater was a force at the net defensively for Chicago's Big Ten Team, blocking three Hoosier attacks.
Caroline Niedospial reached double-digit digs for the 18th time this season and now has 1,628 in her career, 30 shy of second-place all-time at Northwestern.
The first set was a back-and-forth affair with the final score of 25-21 representing the largest point margin of the game. The Hoosiers outlasted Northwestern in an error-filled first frame. There were 12 combined attack errors and nine total service errors before each team settled into the match.
Northwestern struggled to get anything going in the second set and after a valiant comeback in the third, the Wildcats were unable to finish off the rally, dropping the final frame, 25-21.
The Wildcats are back at Welsh-Ryan Arena next weekend. Northwestern hosts Michigan on Friday night at 7 p.m. and then plays Michigan State on Halloween night at 7 p.m. That match will be televised live to a national audience on Big Ten Network.
