EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern's women's tennis team continues its fall season when it travels to Pacific Palisades, California, for the Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships at Riviera Tennis Club. The event gets underway Saturday with the pre-qualifying rounds.
The Wildcats are sending a contingent of four individuals to the event. Senior Alicia Barnett, who is No. 124 in the ITA preseason singles rankings, will take part in the pre-qualifying round. She'll open up the tournament by taking on Ellyse Hamlin of Duke who is a 9-16 seed in the pre-qualifying bracket.
Redshirt sophomore Maddie Lipp also will compete in singles play, though she is a member of the main draw which starts Thursday, Oct. 8. Lipp earned a spot in the main draw by finishing as the runner-up at the ITA Summer Nationals in Bloomington, Indiana, in August. Lipp has earned a preseason national ranking of No. 110, the highest of three Wildcats.
Northwestern is being represented in doubles action by two teams in the main draw. The team of Barnett and sophomore Erin Larner have been bestowed a preseason national ranking of No. 18. Lipp and sophomore Alex Chatt earned their spot in the doubles main draw by taking home the title at the ITA Summer Nationals. The duo has a preseason ranking of No. 34.
