SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Senior Elena Barham led the way for Northwestern in an elite field at Friday's Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational. The Madison, Wisconsin, native finished the 5k course in 17:35.8 to earn the top spot for the Wildcats in the event.

With a field of competitors featuring a combined 10 nationally ranked men's and women's teams, the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational continued building upon its storied tradition Friday afternoon at the Notre Dame Golf Course.
Jena Pianin finished second in the Women's Blue Division for the Wildcats in 17:44.5. The junior earned All-Region honors last season and has finished as one of Northwestern's top-two runners in each of her three starts thus far this season. Rachel Weathered crossed the line in 17:48.9 while freshmen Camille Blackham and Sara Coffey rounded out the scoring quintet for the 'Cats.
In the Women's Open Division, Elena Miller was the top Wildcat, finishing in 18:35.0, followed by teammates Renee Wellman, Mallory Abel and Megan Beach.
Up next for the Wildcats is a trip to Louisville for the Pre-Nationals Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 17, a tune-up for the University of Louisville before they host the 2015 NCAA Championships on Nov. 21.
