EVANSTON, Ill. – Maddie Slater has been named the Big Ten Player of the Week after leading Northwestern to a pair of straight-set road wins last weekend, the conference announced Monday.
Slater hit over .400 in both matches, including an impressive 7-of-9 performance in the Wildcats' 3-0 win at Maryland on Saturday. Against Rutgers, Slater tallied 11 kills to lead all players. The junior middle blocker has hit at a better than .300 clip in her last seven matches and in nine of 13 overall.
She added six blocks and an assist over the weekend to highlight the Wildcats starting 2-0 in Big Ten play.
Slater leads the team with a .412 hitting percentage for the season and ranks fourth with 94 kills and 2.19 kills per set.
This is the first weekly award for the 2014 Academic All-Big Ten honoree.
Northwestern looks to build on a strong start to the 2015 season with road trips to No. 21 Minnesota and No. 16 Wisconsin on tap this week. The Wildcats and Gophers meet at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
