EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern won big in its first home match of the 2015 season, downing Lipscomb 3-1 at Welsh-Ryan Arena on Friday night.
Chicago's Big Ten Team (7-3) was aided by double-digit kill performances from Symone Abbott and Maddie Slater, both with 13, and a fourth consecutive double-double by Taylor Tashima.
Slater continued her hot hitting, knocking down her 13 kills in just 22 tries for a .409 clip. Gabrielle Hazen led all Wildcats in hitting percentage, tallying nine kills in 13 attempts for a .615 mark. Tashima handed out 44 assists to go along with 10 digs on the night.
Northwestern fell behind early in the first set but battled back to win it comfortably and used that momentum to hold the lead throughout the second game. After a rough-hitting third frame, the Wildcats put it all back together to win the fourth and clinch the seventh win of the season.
The defense was strong again for the 'Cats, holding Lipscomb to less than .250 hitting in three of four sets. Northwestern continues to rank among the Big Ten's best in opponent hitting percentage.
The Wildcat Challenge continues when Northwestern hosts Milwaukee on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. in Welsh-Ryan Arena.
