NU's Uplifting Athletes Will Lift For Life on July 31

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern's Chapter of Uplifting Athletes will hold its fourth-annual Lift For Life event Friday, July 31, as part of its summer program to raise money to fight ALS, more commonly known as Lou Gehrig's Disease.

Lift For Life is the signature fundraising event for the nationwide network of 25 Uplifting Athletes chapters run by college football student-athletes.

55866Northwestern became an Uplifting Athletes Chapter in 2011 and was one of the original 10 programs to form a chapter. The Wildcats chose ALS in memory of a current player's grandfather who passed away from the rare disease.

"As Northwestern football players, we are privileged to have this platform from which to stand for something, and are excited to invite our friends, family and fan base to join in a great cause," said Tommy Doles, Northwestern offensive lineman and chapter leader.

"My Grandpa recently passed away after a four-year struggle with ALS. I've seen first-hand the terrible effects of this disease, as well as the need for research, support and awareness. So it's thrilling that as a team, we can do something about it."

The Northwestern Chapter Lift For Life will take place as part of the Wildcats' summer program during one of their final intense workouts prior to August camp. While this year's Lift for Life is not open to the general public to attend, Wildcats friends, family and fans are welcome to donate to the cause.
