RALEIGH, N.C. -- Senior Hana Lee led the fourth-seeded Wildcats on day one of the 2015 NCAA Regionals at Lonnie Poole Golf Course. The senior is tied for 14th after a 1-over-par 73, while No. 15 Northwestern carded a 14-over 302 as a team in round one.
Lee ranked among the Top-5 in the field with four birdies in round one, including two over her final four holes. The senior from Seoul, South Korea, is competing in the NCAA Regionals for the fourth time as a collegian, and added the third All-Big Ten honor of her decorated career last week. She is five shots off the lead, and just two shots outside of the Top-5 on the individual leaderboard after day one.
Sophomore Kacie Komoto carded 14 pars, fourth-most in the field, during a consistent round that finished at 3-over-par. Northwestern's 61 pars as a team ranked fourth among the 18 schools in Raleigh in round one.
Junior Suchaya Tangkamolprasert was the first Wildcat to tee off on Thursday and carded a 5-over-par 77 on day one. The Bangkok native led Northwestern in all four previous NCAA events of her career, finishing among the Top-25 in the NCAA Regionals and NCAA Championships in both 2013 and 2014. Freshman Sarah Cho, the 2015 Big Ten Individual champion, also recorded a 5-over 77 in her NCAA debut while classmate Hannah Kim, the Big Ten Player of the Year, finished at 6-over in her first NCAA event.
Thursday's first round marked Northwestern's sixth consecutive appearance in the NCAA Regionals under head coach Emily Fletcher and assistant Beth Miller. The Wildcats have advanced to the NCAA Championships each of the last two seasons.
The Wildcats will be one of the first teams to tee off on Friday in round two. Northwestern will start the round on the back nine paired with Mississippi State and Coastal Carolina at 7:30 a.m. ET.
