EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern student-athletes from four different programs recently took to the streets of Evanston to help out Misericordia with its annual Candy Days tradition.
Members of the Wildcats' softball, football, men's basketball and women's basketball programs all braved cool and rainy conditions as they canned throughout the sidewalks and streets of Evanston, collecting donations from pedestrians and motorists.
In exchange for their donations, those who contributed received a package of Jelly Belly jelly beans.
Misericordia offers a community of care that maximizes potential for persons with mild to profound developmental disabilities, many of whom are also physically challenged. Through a spectrum of residential options on its 31-acre Chicago campus and in the community, and with a wide variety of programs, Misericordia currently serves more than 600 children and adults from diverse racial, religious and socio-economic backgrounds.
The efforts of Northwestern's student-athletes helped Evanston raise a total of $15,203 for Misericordia.
