Wildcats Log Eight Personal Bests in Split-Squad Weekend

EVANSTON, Ill. -- The Northwestern cross country team saw eight student-athletes log personal best marks during a split-squad weekend at the Stanford Invitational, San Francisco State Distance Carnival and the Ted Haydon Invitational this weekend.

Elena Barham started off the day in the Bay with an eighth-place finish in the 10,000m run at the San Francisco State Distance Carnival. The sophomore cut 30 second off of her time and finished at 36:10.99 for a personal record.

Classmate Rachel Weathered led five Wildcats in the 5,000m event with an 18th-place finish at 17:28.09, good for a 23-second PR. Rookie Isabel Seidel made her collegiate debut in the event, crossing at 17:31.11 for 22nd place in Section 2. Sophomore Allison Jacobsen finished next for the `Cats at 17:48.92, while classmate Renee Wellman finished right off her hip with a personal-best mark of 17:51.11. Second-year Mallory Abel closed out the event for Northwestern at 18:24.68.

In her section of the women's 10,000m run at the Stanford Invitational, sophomore Andrea Ostenso smashed her personal best by nearly one minute and 24 seconds. Her mark of 34:46.88 was the 29th-best time in Section 2.

Also at Stanford, Jena Pianin shaved 33-seconds off her time for a PR in Section 3 of the 5,000m event. The sophomore finished 22nd after crossing at 16:42.76.

In Chicago, freshman Victoria Bianco kicked off the Ted Haydon Invitational with yet another personal best time in the 1,500m run with a mark of 5:00.44 for a fourth-place finish.

Also in the Windy City, freshmen Elena Miller and Ellen Schmitz claimed a gold and silver finish, respectively, in the 3,000m event. Miller owned the top time at 10:38.80, while Schmitz crossed next at 10:42.69. Brooke Pigneri (5th, 10:51.96), Sara Coffey (10th, 11:07.30) and Hannah Rose (13th, 11:38.39) also respresented the Wildcats in the 3,000m run.
