EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern concludes the 2015 regular season with a pair of home matches this weekend against Iowa and Nebraska. The 27th-ranked Wildcats host the Hawkeyes on Saturday at 11 a.m. and will celebrate Senior Day vs. the Huskers at 11 a.m. on Sunday. Both matches will be played outdoors at the Vandy Christie Tennis Center.
Lok Sze Leung will be honored during intermission of the Nebraska match for her achievements as a student-athlete at Northwestern.
The Wildcats (12-6, 7-2) have won five straight conference matches and sit in third-place in the crowded Big Ten race. Last weekend, NU won handily over Minnesota and Wisconsin. The `Cats shut out Minnesota for the third straight season before beating the Badgers by a 6-1 margin.
Alicia Barnett and Erin Larner make up the nation's 42nd-ranked doubles team. The duo is 6-1 this season, including a perfect 4-0 mark in the conference, all while playing at the No. 1 position. Alex Chatt continues to be a standout singles player, having won six matches in a row to improve her overall record to 25-11. The freshman is 15-3 in dual matches and 8-1 in the Big Ten. Leung (22-11) and Erin Larner (24-11) are also 20-match winners for Northwestern.
Iowa (8-11, 2-7) comes to Evanston in the midst of a four-match losing streak. The Hawkeyes last won on March 29 over Nebraska. Shelby Talcott is 10-3 for Iowa at the No. 1 singles position and has won three consecutive matches. Northwestern leads the all-time series against the Hawkeyes, 41-2.
Nebraska (12-10, 0-9) is still in search of its first conference win. The Huskers play at Illinois before visiting Evanston. Nebraska has lost five straight matches and nine of its last 10 overall. Maggy Lehmicke is 10-11 at No. 1, while Izabella Zgierska is 11-10 at No. 2. Northwestern holds a 5-2 advantage in the brief series with Nebraska.
The 2015 Big Ten Tournament will be held from Thursday, April 23 to Sunday, April 26 in Evanston, Ill.
