NAPA, Calif. -- Suchaya Tangkamolprasert shot a 3-under 69 over her second 18 holes to sit in second place, two shots off the lead, after Day 1 of the 2015 Silverado Showdown in northern California. Northwestern carded an even-par 288 in the afternoon to vault into third place on the tournament leaderboard after 36 holes.

The conditions during round one were sunny with temperatures hovering in the mid-70's as the Wildcats re-acquainted themselves with the par-72, 6,253-yard North Course layout at Silverado, where they finished third a year ago. The second round saw temperatures stay the same, but the wind picked up and the greens firmed up considerably.

Despite the challenges in the afternoon, the Wildcats annihilated the course with one of their best rounds of the spring to vault into third place on the team leaderboard with a 19-over 595 after 36 holes. Heading into Tuesday's third and final round, Northwestern sits six shots behind Oregon at the top, three shots back of Colorado in second and six shots up on Oregon State in fourth.

Suchaya Tangkamolprasert (Bangkok, Thailand/Bromsgrove Christian School) opened the tournament with eight consecutive pars, and parred 16-of-18 holes on her way to a team-best 74 during the opening round. But the junior saved her best for the afternoon, starting the round with six pars before going birdie-birdie at Nos. 8 and 9 and adding two more birds on the back at Nos. 13 and 16 en route to a 3-under 69, the second-best individual round of the day. Her 1-under 143 through 36 holes put Tangkamolprasert in second place, just two shots behind frontrunner Esther Lee of Colorado, after Day 1.

Sophomore Kacie Komoto (Honolulu, Hawaii/Punahou) carded three birdies in her first ten holes of the morning on the way to a 3-over 75. The afternoon round appeared headed in the wrong direction after a pair of bogies at Nos. 3 and 8, but Komoto roared around the turn with birdies at Nos. 9, 11 and 12, and closed with six straight pars to card a 1-under 71 in the afternoon and move into a tie for fifth place.

Freshman Sarah Cho (San Diego, Calif./Torrey Pines) bounced back from a 10-over 82 in the morning round to fire three birdies in the afternoon as part of a 1-over 73. Her 155 score after 36 holes places her in a tie for 35th place with a group that included teammates Hana Lee (Seoul, South Korea/Wilson (Calif.)) and Hannah Kim (Chula Vista, Calif./Otay Ranch).

In the field in addition to NU, No. 32 Oregon, No. 34 California, No. 39 Colorado, No. 47 San Jose State and No. 48 GRU Augusta all are currently inside of Golfstat's top 50. Tuesday's final 18 holes will begin with a 10:30 a.m. CT/8:30 a.m. PT shotgun start.

Following this tournament, Northwestern's focus shifts to the 2015 Big Ten Championships in Indianapolis, Indiana. NU won its first-ever conference team title in 2013 before placing third overall one year ago.
