EVANSTON, Ill. -- Senior Olivia Duehr's (Antioch, Ill./Antioch) four home run performance in a three-game sweep of Penn State last weekend has earned her the first Big Ten Softball Player of the Week award of her career.
Duehr led the entire conference with a 1.700 slugging percentage in three games, batting .500 while belting at least one homer in each contest. She first had a two-run home run in the first game of a Saturday doubleheader before going 2-for-3 with two walks, three runs, four RBIs and two more home runs in the nightcap.
In Sunday's series finale, Duehr had a more modest infield single before coming up with one out in the eighth inning of a 4-4 ball game and belting her fourth home run of the series to give Northwestern the lead for good in an eventual 5-4 victory.
Duehr entered the weekend with 15 career home runs and exited with 19. Her effort aided an incredible team slugging performance in University Park; as a team Northwestern had 17 home runs in 21 games prior to the series, then the Wildcats proceeded to smash 13 in the course of the three-game set.
NU is back in action tomorrow, Tuesday, March 24, in a pair of games at Hofstra.
