EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern concludes its regular season Saturday when it travels to Iowa in search of a season sweep of the Hawkeyes. Tip-off is set for 11 a.m. at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
The Wildcats are carrying momentum into the postseason as they have won five of their last six contests. NU is coming off a victory on Tuesday, outlasting Michigan 82-78 in double overtime. Alex Olah led Northwestern with a career-high 25 points to go along with 12 rebounds for his seventh double-double of the season. Tre Demps added 20 points, including game-tying 3-pointers in the final four seconds of both regulation and the first OT.
The overtime contest was the fourth of the season for the Wildcats, matching the 1983-84 squad for the most in a season in school history.
Demps enters Saturday's game just two points shy of reaching 1,000 for his Northwestern career. He would be the 32nd player all-time to score 1,000 career points as a Wildcat.
Entering the final weekend of the regular season, Northwestern could wind up as either the No. 9, 10, 11 or 12 seed for next week's Big Ten tournament. The 'Cats can earn a first-round bye with a win over Iowa or losses by Minnesota and Nebraska on Sunday.
Northwestern took the first meeting with Iowa 66-61 in overtime Feb. 15 in Evanston. Bryant McIntosh led the Wildcats with 18 points while Tre Demps added 16. The Wildcats and the Hawkeyes have split their last 26 meetings going back to the 2001-02 campaign.
Scouting Iowa
The Hawkeyes won their fifth consecutive game on Tuesday, posting a 77-63 win at Indiana. Aaron White led Iowa with 21 points while Jarrod Uthoff added 14.
White paces the Hawkeyes with averages of 15.6 points and 7.3 rebounds per contest. The latter mark ranks third in the Big Ten. Iowa ranks first in the conference in field goal percentage defense, limiting opponents to 39.2 percent shooting from the field.
Fran McCaffery has a 94-73 record in five seasons as the head coach at Iowa and a 345-250 career record overall as a head coach.
