EVANSTON, Ill. -- Two of the top programs in the country will square off Saturday when No. 6 Northwestern takes on No. 2 North Carolina at Navy Field in Chapel Hill, N.C. Opening draw for the contest is scheduled for 11 a.m. CT and the game will be broadcast on ESPN3.
The meeting will be the 16th in program history with the 'Cats holding an 11-4 advantage. NU defeated the then top-ranked Tar Heels last season at Lakeside Field, 7-5, for its 300th win in program history.
North Carolina is currently ranked No. 2 in the IWLCA poll and No. 3 in the media poll following a 13-11 loss to No. 1 Maryland last week. The Tar Heels are led by USC transfer Alex Moore with 12 goals on the season. Brittney Coppa is just behind with 10 goals on the year, while Maggie Bill and Aly Messinger have been the key contributors with four assists apiece. Caylee Waters has started all four games for UNC in goal and enters the game with a 9.87 goals-against average while stopping 47.9 percent of her shots faced.
Season Tickets on Sale Now: Tickets for the 2015 season at Lakeside Field can be purchased today. Packages start at just $39 and include a season-ticket holder gift. The Wildcats will play seven games at Lakeside Field this season, including contests against Colorado, Syrcause, Maryland, Louisville, Penn, Penn State and Ohio State.
Teewaraton Watch List
Seniors Bridget Bianco and Kara Mupo were named to the Tewaaraton Award Watch List Thursday evening. The 2015 Tewaaraton Award, presented by Under Armour, is recognized as the pre-eminent lacrosse award, annually honoring the top male and female college lacrosse player in the United States. Bianco was one of 25 final nominees for the award a season ago.
Lasota Earns B1G and National Honors
Freshman Selena Lasota was named the Big Ten Offensive and Freshman of the Week as well as the Inside Lacrosse National Rookie of the week for her performance against No. 8 Duke and Marquette. Lasota tallied five goals in the Wildcats' loss to the Blue Devils before scoring a season-best six goals in a 13-6 victory at Marquette. In addition to her offensive prowess, Lasota also caused six turnovers against the Golden Eagles, tying the second-best single-game mark in program history.
