EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern will look to pick up its 11th win of the season away from home on Sunday when it closes out the season series against the Wisconsin Badgers at the Kohl Center in Madison, Wis. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. CT and the contest will be seen live on BTN Plus on BTN2Go
20 & 10
With a win over No. 21/20 Nebraska on Wednesday, Northwestern secured its 20th victory of the season for the first time in seven years under head coach Joe McKeown. In fact, this is the first season since 1995-96 that the 'Cats have won at least as many games (23). Chicago's Big Ten Team has also been successful in conference play this year by earning 10 wins with three games to play. No Northwestern team has won 10 games in the league since the 1992-93 squad did so. The school record for the most wins in a season is 24, which happened twice (1989-90, 1979-80). The most Big Ten wins, 15, also came in 1989-90. That team won the program's first Big Ten Championship.
ROAD WARRIORS
The Wildcats secured their 10th win of the season away from home on Feb. 14 at the Crisler Center against Michigan. The 1996-97 Northwestern squad was the last to win as many games away from Welsh-Ryan Arena, and also the last to accept a bid to the NCAA Tournament. Notably, Northwestern won against Michigan State in East Lansing, Mich., on Dec. 28, for the first time since March 5, 1993, and in West Lafayette, Ind., against Purdue, for the first time since Dec. 29, 1996. This season the Wildcats also won in Ann Arbor, Mich., for the first time since Dec. 28, 2009. NU won its last trip to the Kohl Center, 77-73, in overtime on March 2, 2014.
PASS THE BUTTER, COFFEY'S ON A ROLL
Northwestern's Nia Coffey has been named to the Big Ten Weekly Honor Roll three consecutive times after receiving the recognition once again on Monday. The sophomore has turned in six consecutive double-doubles and is averaging 16.5 points, 11.8 rebounds, two steals and two blocks per game during that span. She scored 25 points and added 11 rebounds, three blocks and three steals last Saturday at Michigan, where she hit the game-winning shot with 4.9 seconds left. Coffey currently ranks seventh in the Big Ten in rebounding (9.2) and 10th in scoring (15.7). Her 13 double-doubles currently rank tied for fifth in the conference and 20th in the NCAA.
HOMECOMING QUEENS
Northwestern's roster boasts three players who call the state of Wisconsin home. Senior Alex Cohen comes from Bayside, while freshman Maya Jonas is from Whitefish Bay, and her classmate Lydia Rohde hails from Brookfield. Cohen was a 2010 Sporting News All-American out of Nicolet H.S., while Jonas was a WBCA Division 2 All-State First Team honoree in 2014. Rohde was a 2014 Associated Press All-State honoree. Rohde's father, Kevin, was a kicker for the Badgers from 1982-83. His career extra-point percentage (.952) still ranks eighth in UW annals. Her brother, Nate, played soccer at Marquette.
TOPPLING THE TOP 25
Following a victory over No. 21/20 Nebraska on Feb. 18, Northwestern has accumulated 18 wins against teams ranked in the top 25 or receiving votes in either the Associated Press or USA Today coaches polls under the direction of Joe McKeown. DePaul has been the most victimized team, falling three times, including an NU double-overtime victory at then-18th-ranked DePaul on Nov. 29, 2014. The Huskers fell for a second year in a row while ranked at Welsh-Ryan Arena. The Wildcats have won six games over top-25 foes since last season and they are 3-2 in the current campaign.
COMEBACK 'CATS
Northwestern has been in good shape with the lead at halftime this season. The Wildcats are 18-1 when leading at the break, but in they've shown the ability to come from behind recently, as well. Down by seven at the half, NU trailed Purdue by as many as 14 points in the first half on Feb. 11 before rallying to win by eight in overtime. On Valentine's Day, Michigan led Northwestern by as many as 13 points in the opening half, and 10 at the intermission, but the 'Cats got a left-handed layup off glass from Nia Coffey with 4.9 seconds left to secure their fifth consecutive win. The victory over U-M was the second this season for Northwestern when it trailed after 20 minutes of play.
SCOUTING WISCONSIN
Overall Record: 8-17, 4-11 Big Ten
All-Time Series Record: Northwestern leads, 34-31
First Meeting This Season: Five players scored in double figures, led by Lauren Douglas who had 13 off the bench, to ring in 2015 with a 68-47 win on New Year's Day at Welsh-Ryan Arena.
Notable: Overall, Wisconsin is the lowest scoring team in the Big Ten this season, averaging 63.7 points per game. The Badgers are one of the best squads from behind the arc, however. UW ranks third in the conference, one spot ahead of NU, with a 3-point shooting percentage of .361. Junior Nicole Bauman leads the way for Wisconsin and the entire Big Ten with a mark .471. She ranks third in the NCAA in that category. She averages a team-high 14.7 points per game, while Cassie Rochel leads the way on the boards with 8.0 per game.
