2015 GVSU Big Meet LIVE RESULTS
ALLENDALE, Mich. -- Northwestern cross country heads northeast this weekend to the Grand Valley State University Big Meet with a number of Wildcats scheduled to run new distances for the first time in the 2015 indoor track season.
The GVSU Big Meet at Kelly Family Sports Center (300m track) will feature 57 different colleges and universities, including both the reigning Division I (Michigan State) and Division II (Grand Valley State) NCAA cross-country champions.
Northwestern's day in the greater Grand Rapids area will start with the 5,000m event featuring Ellen Schmitz, Megan O'Brien, Mallory Abel and Allison Jacobsen. The 3,000m field will also be full of Wildcats, with Andrea Ostenso, Isabel Seidel, Elena Barham, Rachel Weathered and Renee Wellman competing.
Last weekend at the Meyo Invitational in South Bend, Weathered won her One-Mile heat by breaking the five-minute mark for the first time in her career. Ostenso, a sophomore from Ladysmith, Wis., shattered the program record in the 5,000m event last weekend with a time of 16:31:66, improving by almost 20-seconds over her Gladstein Invitational winning time from Jan. 24 (16:51:25). She is currently ranked 21st in the NCAA and 2nd in the Big Ten in the 5,000.
Sophomore Jena Pianin will compete on Friday in both the 800m race, the shortest competition of the season thus far for a Wildcats runner, and the One-Mile event. Pianin is currently ranked 10th among Big Ten competitors in the 3,000m.
