EVANSTON, Ill. -- For the second consecutive week Northwestern forward Nia Coffey earned a spot on the Big Ten Weekly Honor Roll, the conference announced Monday. The sophomore posted back-to-back double-doubles in victories over Indiana and Illinois.
During NU's 75-69 triumph over the Hoosiers on Feb. 5, Coffey scored 14 points and pulled down 12 rebounds. That performance helped her notch her ninth double-double of the season. She also added four steals, all of which came in the first half, at Assembly Hall.
When the Wildcats returned to Welsh-Ryan Arena on Sunday, the Minneapolis, Minn., native scored 14 points once again and corralled a game-high 11 rebounds during her team's 64-58 win. Coffey added two steals, two assists and her 100th career blocked shot in the victory.
Coffey has posted three consecutive double-doubles dating back to Feb. 1 against Minnesota and 10 overall this season with eight coming in conference games. Her 10 double-doubles ranks her sixth in the Big Ten and 30th nationally this season. That number also places Coffey in a tie for fifth place on Northwestern's single-season record book with Anucha Browne (1984-85).
Joining Coffey on the Big Ten Weekly Honor Roll for Feb. 9 is Jacqui Grant of Illinois and Bethany Doolittle of Iowa. Rutgers' Betnijah Laney is the Big Ten Player of the Week. NU's standout sophomore was named to the Big Ten Weekly Honor Roll on Feb. 2 and she previously garnered Big Ten Player of the Week recognition on Dec. 1.
Northwestern hits the hardwood next on Wednesday, Feb. 11 at Mackey Arena in West Lafayette, Ind., against the Purdue Boilermakers. The game will tip-off at 6 p.m. CST and it will be seen through BTN Plus on BTN2GO.
