Peri Picks Up Second Win at Mal Moore Invite

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Manon Peri improved to 2-0 at the Mal Moore Invitational hosted by the University of Alabama on Saturday. The sophomore won in straight sets yesterday and dominated in the third set today to claim victory.

NU was matched up against players from eighth-ranked Alabama on the event's second day.

Peri won the first set over Bennett Dunn of Alabama by a 6-2 score. After dropping the second set 6-4, Peri won a convincing third set, 6-1 to take the match. The win brought her non-dual record to 5-5.

Rheeya Doshi and Lok Sze Leung were also winners in singles play. Doshi put forth a great effort in dismantling Carmen Blanco 6-1, 6-0, and Leung played a one-set match against Aryn Greene, winning 6-1.

Jillian Rooney and Erin Larner won a close doubles match over host Alabama's Carmen Blanco and Aryn Greene. Rooney and Larner provided a big 6-4 win to get the 'Cats on the board. Leung and Doshi partnered up for another doubles win, taking down Danielle Spielmann and Luicelena Perez 7-6 (4).

In singles play, Alicia Barnett took the nation's 25th-ranked player to a decisive third set, but Erin Routliffe was able to emerge as the victor by a 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 score.

Northwestern finishes up its trip to Alabama by playing opponents from No. 30 Florida State on Sunday.
