WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- In the midst of their best stretch of play during the 2014 season, Northwestern will take on No. 6 Penn State on Wednesday, Nov. 5, at 12:30 p.m. CT in a Big Ten Tournament Quarterfinal on the campus of Purdue University.
Head coach Michael Moynihan's Wildcats are one of the hottest teams in the Conference over the last month. The `Cats have won three of their last four and compiled a 4-1-2 record over their last seven matches down the stretch.
Northwestern earned its berth in the Tournament thanks to a thrilling 1-0 double-overtime victory over Minnesota on Saturday afternoon at Lakeside Field. Freshman Michelle Manning was the catalyst for a celebration, netting her second goal of the season with just minutes remaining in extra time and the Wildcats needing a win to advance to the postseason. Classmate Lauren Clem earned her seventh shutout of the season in goal for the `Cats.
After winning its 16th Big Ten Championship and third outright title in the past four years, Penn State earned the No. 1 seed in the 2014 Big Ten Women's Soccer Tournament.
The Big Ten Women's Soccer Tournament semifinals will begin at 11 a.m. ET on Friday, Nov. 7, while the tournament will conclude with the championship game at 3 p.m. ET on Sunday, Nov. 9. The tournament champion will earn the Big Ten's automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament.
