EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern plays in Mexico for the first time in school history as it competes in the Cancun Challenge on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Wildcats open up play against Miami University at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday. The contest is being televised live by CBS Sports Network.

The 'Cat are playing regular-season games outside the United States for the first time since participating in the San Juan Shootout in Puerto Rico on Dec. 19-20, 2006.

Big Ten teams have fared well in the Cancun Challenge, posting an 11-1 record in the event with a pair of tournament championships (Illinois, 2011; Wisconsin, 2013).

Northwestern lost a pair of games at its in-season tournament---Las Vegas Invitational---last season, but the Wildcats captured tournament crowns in each of the previous two years, winning the Charleston Classic (2011) and the South Padre Island Invitational (2012).

NU ran its record to 4-0 on Saturday with a 68-67 overtime win over Elon. Tre Demps led the Wildcats with 21 points, including hitting the game-winning shot with 48.1 seconds left in the extra session. Freshman Vic Law scored 14 of his career-high 16 points following halftime.
